Off to a Bad Start!

It is amazing that when you (I) test drive a car, it runs fine only to show you her true colors as soon as you get it home.  I think when you buy a 23 year old car this effect is magnified 10 fold!

My new 300zx ran nice on the way home and nice when I gave my buddy a ride that night.  But then the next morning as I headed in to work she started showing her true colors.

It was raining and soon the windows began to fog up.  No problem, I flip the defrost on and notice… Hey!  The air is still blowing out of the vents and not the defrost vents.  Problem number 1…. heater mode actuator motor is not working.  “I’m going to have to fix that!” I think to myself.

About 20 minutes into the ride I notice my radio is acting odd.  It would go on, and off, and on.  Then I noticed the headlights seemed awfully dim.  Then she started running rough… real rough…

I decided I’d better get off the road and no more had I pulled off the main road into a subdivisions road and she died.

I’d been through this before with other cars and immediately suspected that the alternator was gone.  Luckily we have AAA road service, and after a call and a short wait my new to me Z was on her way to the repair shop.

Sure enough it was the alternator.

Not a great way to start a new relationship.
